Alert Issued For Fire Department Scam Calls In Fairfield County

Fairfield County residents have been warned to be wary of opportunistic fraudsters who have been attempting to scam locals by posing as members of local fire departments and soliciting donations.

The Trumbull Volunteer Fire Company issued an alert on Thursday after receiving multiple reports from local residents of a scammer claiming to be a representative of local fire departments “asking for support and monetary donations over the phone,” according to Company President Shawn Roof.

According to Roof, the Company has “ received information that someone is calling and identifying themselves as a representative of a local volunteer fire department. The caller then asks for your support and for monetary donations over the phone.”

The caller ID reads “VOLUNTEER FIRE,” according to Roof, and the number the phone number showed up as 475-219-2354.

Roof noted that they do not accept or solicit donations over the phone. Those interested in donating to support the Company can do so by contacting officials on their Facebook page or website.
